JACKSON, Miss. | Talmadge Davis recorded a career-high in strikeouts, but it wasn't enough as Jackson State dropped the first game of its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series to Alabama State, 3-2 at Braddy Field on Friday night.
Davis (0-2) went 5.1 innings in the start, giving up five hits and was charged with three runs (all earned) while striking out 11 (with no walks). Kade Walker came on in relief and worked 2.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts, while Trae Burton came on and worked a scoreless ninth.
Robert Tate Jr. led Jackson State at the plate finishing 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Hederick Torres went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

- 8th inning (bottom) - Isaac McClenty doubled down the rf line, RBI (0-1 K); Torres scored; Alabama State 3-2.
