JACKSON, Miss. | Jayden Lopez struck out 10 through six innings but it wasn't enough as Jackson State dropped an 8-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest to Alabama State at Braddy Field on Saturday afternoon.
Lopez who got the start but did not factor in the decision logged 6.0 innings in the start, allowing six runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts (and only two walks). Jaedeyn Edwards (1-1) suffered the loss out of the bullpen, working 4.0 innings allowing a pair of runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
Jackson State battled back in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead before having to battle back in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game. However, for the third time in two weeks, the Tigers went to extra innings in conference play (twice against Florida A&M last weekend) before Alabama State claimed the win in the 10th inning with a solo home run from Trey Callaway.
Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. finished the day 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Tyshon Patty finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Meanwhile, Diego Melendez finished 1-for-3 with three RBI on the day for the Tigers.

- 7th inning (top) - Oropeza singled to right field, RBI (1-1 KB); Breydon Divine advanced to second; Devin Chandler scored; Alabama State 7-3.
- 7th inning (bottom) - Melendez grounded out to p, RBI (2-2 KFFBB); Hudson advanced to second; Cabral scored. Patty singled through the left side, advanced to second on the throw, RBI (3-2 BBKKB); Hudson scored. Hederick Torres singled up the middle, RBI (1-1 BF); Alabama State 7-6.
- 8th inning (bottom) - Tyree Reed singled through the left side, RBI (2-1 BBK); McClenty scored, unearned; 7-7.
- 10th inning (top) - Callaway homered to left center, RBI (1-2 SFB); Alabama State 8-7.
