JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State took the lead in the third inning, never relinquishing it, winning game three of its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series over Alabama State 9-6 at Braddy Field on Sunday afternoon.

Jackson State took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, before adding five runs in the fourth. Shemar Harris started the scoring on a wild pitch before Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. singled up the middle to drive in Robert Tate Jr. and Isaac McClenty scored. Diego Melendez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left to to push the lead 6-1 before Hederick Torres singled to left field to drive in Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. for the 7-1 lead. The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth before holding on for the win.

Derek Arrocha (3-4) picked up the win working 8.0 innings in the start, allowed four runs (only one earned) on six hits with nine strikeouts. Kade Walker came on in the ninth to record the final two outs for his second save.

Jackson State picked up 14 hits as a team with five players picking up multiple hits including Pierre Cabral who finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Torres finished 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI, while Hudson finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI. They were joined with multiple hits by Melendez (2-for-3) and Harris (2-for-4).
