BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State junior pitcher Derek Arrocha was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pitcher of the Week after his performance on Sunday against Alabama State in game three of the series.
Arrocha (3-4) picked up the win in the series finale, working 8.0 innings allowing just one earned run on six hits. He also struck out nine and allowed just one walk while hitting a pair of batters late in the game. He was part of a starting rotation that struck out 30 Alabama State batters in 19.1 innings with just three walks, and a pitching staff that recorded 38 strikeouts combined in the three games.
Jackson State (17-22, 7-11 SWAC) hits the road for a three-game series in Huntsville (Ala.) against Alabama A&M in a key conference series.
