Jackson State Falls in Eight-Inning Battle to Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| The Jackson State softball team mounted multiple scoring surges but came up just short in an 8–7 extra-inning loss to Florida A&M on Friday evening.

The Tigers showed resilience throughout, using a pair of big innings to build momentum against a strong Rattlers squad, but the effort fell just short in the bottom of the eighth.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State (23-20, 15-7 SWAC) broke through in the third inning, plating three runs with two outs.
  • Jace Jackson sparked the rally with an RBI triple to center before Meah Almaraz followed with a run-scoring double.
  • Gabrielle Willis added another RBI single to give JSU an early 3–0 advantage.
  • After Florida A&M answered in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead 4-3.
  • he Tigers responded again in the fifth with a four-run frame.
  • Capitalizing on defensive miscues, JSU pushed across multiple unearned runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Beija Allen to extend the lead to 7–5.
  • The Rattlers knotted the score at seven with two outs.
  • FAMU walked the game off in the bottom of the eighth inning off of the bat of Douglas.
Inside the Numbers
  • Jackson finished with six hits on the night, with Jackson, Almaraz, Willis, Allen, Brooklyn Morris, and Ka'Liyah Gipson each contributing.
  • Allen drove in a team-high two runs, while Jackson added an RBI and scored twice.
  • Morris reached base three times and scored twice, providing a spark at the top of the lineup .
  • In the circle, Jorgina Gant tossed a complete game, working through traffic across seven-plus innings while recording three strikeouts .
  • Florida A&M rallied late and ultimately walked it off in the eighth inning to secure the win.
