HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Hederick Torres led a 17-hit attack for Jackson State as it claimed its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against Alabama A&M with a 13-5 victory in the series finale on Sunday at Bulldog Field.
Torres finished the day 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and four RBI, adding a double - one of six extra base hits on the day for Jackson State (19-23, 9-12 SWAC). Four other Tigers picked up multiple hits including Pierre Cabral who finished 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and run scored, and an RBI. Tyree Reed finished 2-for-4 with his team-leading eighth home run of the season, two runs scored and three RBI.
Tyshon Patty finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and Isaac McClenty finished 2-for-4 with a run scored for Jackson State; while Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. also added a pair of hits including a triple.
The Tigers trailed 2-1 through two innings on Sunday before an eight-run third inning to take a 9-2 lead using a pair of extra base hits in the hitting including a three-run home run from Reed on a 2-1 pitch to push the lead to seven. They would add one more in the fourth and three in the fifth for the final margin.
Derek Arrocha (4-4), the reigning SWAC Pitcher of the Week, picked up his second consecutive victory working six innings allowing five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Trae Burton worked the final 3.0 innings allowing a pair of hits with three strikeouts, picking up his first save of the season.
