JACKSON, Miss. | Talmadge Davis held Alcorn State to just one hit, helping Jackson State pick up a 9-1 win in the opening game of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series with the Braves at Braddy Field on Saturday afternoon.
Davis (2-2), the reigning Pitcher of the Week in the conference, recorded his second consecutive complete game holding Alcorn State to just one hit - a sixth inning double - and allowed just six base runners (three walks and two hit batters) in the win. The sophomore recorded a career-high 15 strikeouts, striking out the side in the ninth inning to end the game and recorded at least two strikeouts in an inning in six of the nine.Â
He has recorded 33 strikeouts in his last three starts (22.1 innings).
Meanwhile, Jackson State (20-23. 10-12 SWAC) collected 10 hits with four players recording multiple hits including Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. who finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a pair of RBI. Tyree Reed, who graduated earlier in the day, finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a double, while Pierre Cabral finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Meanwhile, Diego Melendez finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI in the win.
