JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State opened a close game with a seven-run fifth inning to pull away for 13-6 victory Tougaloo in non-conference action at Braddy Field on Tuesday night.

Jackson State (15-18) scored a pair of runs in the first two innings to jump ahead 2-0 before Tougaloo tied the game with a Lekeidric Sutton two-run home run in the fourth inning. The Tigers exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning with seven runs to build a 9-2 lead before extending the lead to 13-5 in the eighth inning.

Tyshon Patty paced the 13-hit attack for Jackson State, finishing 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI; while Diego Melendez finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Asafa Jones and Parker Winfield each picked up a pair of hits, while Pierre Cabral hit his seventh home run of the season.

Trae Burton (1-3) picked up the win in relief, working 1.1 innings allowing three runs on a hit with four strkeouts. Kade Walker, Shemar Harris, and Christian Delagado combined for the final 3.2 innings allowing one run on four hits. Manuel Toro got the start and worked the first 4.0 innings allowing a pair of runs on a pair of hits.
