BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State outfielder Tyree Reed earned First Team All-Conference honors, announced the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on Tuesday night after a vote from the head coaches and communication professionals.
Reed ranks in several national statistical categories this season, including in the top 30 in two different categories. He is ranked 12th nationally (fourth in the conference) in on-base percentage and 27th nationally (sixth in the conference) in batting average. He also ranks 44th nationally (fifth in the conference) in bases on balls per game, 45th nationally (fifth in the conference) in bases on balls, and 46th nationally (second in the conference) in runs per game. He also ranks 55th nationally (second in the conference) in runs scored and 124th nationally (fifth in the conference) in slugging percentage. Reed also ranks fourth in the conference in OPS (1.151), 10th in home runs (nine), and 20th in RBI. The redshirt junior recorded a conference-best three home run game against Florida A&M earlier this season. He was also named the SWAC Newcomer of the Week on April 14.
On the season, he hit a team-high .385 with 69 hits in 179 official at-bats, including hitting .400 in conference play. He scored 62 runs and knocked in 39 more, while he also collected 23 extra-base hits (12 doubles, two triples, and nine home runs). The redshirt junior finished with a slugging percentage of .626 and an on-base percentage of .525 with 46 walks (just 38 strikeouts), and was hit by a pitch 11 times. He also recorded 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts.
Jackson State will face No. 2 seed Southern in the opening round of the SWAC Baseball Championships at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20 at historic Rickwood Field.
