Men’s golf set to host TheeILove Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. | The 2026-27 men's golf season gets underway at The Refuge Golf Course on Monday morning as Jackson State hosts the inaugural TheeILove Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.

The tournament will feature 54 holes over a two-day period, with the first two rounds taking place on Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning. The tournament will feature Tennessee State, Southern, LeMoyne-Owen, Prairie View A&M, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Texas Southern, and Coppin State.

The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

The Refuge Golf Course was originally designed by Roy Case and quickly gained acclaim as one of the top public golf courses in the state. Literally carved from 200 acres of wetlands, The Refuge's inherent beauty lies in its setting. More than 500,000 cubic yards of dirt were moved to create lakes, creeks, and one of the best public courses in the region. Generous tees, rolling hills, and welcoming fairways culminate at gently rolling greens featuring some of the smoothest and truest putting surfaces around.

The 18-hole golf course was renovated under the direction of golf course architect Nathan Crace, ASGCA of Watermark Golf, and reopened in the spring of 2021. The renovated course provides a more playable layout with three new holes and returning nines. It also includes new TifEagle hybrid Bermuda grass greens, new and renovated bunkers, and upgrades to the course's irrigation. The course also features the Longleaf Tee System from the American Society of Golf Course Architects Foundation. This system strategically expands existing tee complexes and increases course playability and golfer enjoyment for golfers of all skill sets. Since the course reopened, it has garnered rave reviews. It was named "Runner-Up" in the "2021 Renovation of the Year" by Golf Inc. magazine and named to the Golfer's Choice 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026: Best golf courses in Mississippi by Golf Pass.

The renovated course is suitable for players of every skill level, from old to young and beginner to professional. The new course layout is more player-friendly, with multiple tees ranging from 4,000 to more than 7,000 yards and varying angles of attack. From the back tees, the course is not some daunting monster of 7,000+ yards, and from the forward tees, it's just right for seniors, ladies, juniors, and beginners.
