BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State sophomore quarterback Jared Lockhart was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week following his performance against Edward Waters on Saturday, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

He delivered the best performance of his Jackson State career Saturday night, throwing for career highs of 388 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers defeated Edward Waters 66-14 at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Lockhart was named the game's offensive MVP after he helped the Tigers score 38 unanswered points in the first half and pile up 704 yards of total offense in front of 16,726 fans. The sophomore quarterback completed 17 of 25 passes without an interception, averaging more than 22 yards per completion. His four touchdown passes went to four different receivers as Jackson State built a 38-0 halftime advantage and never allowed Edward Waters to threaten, and he also added a rushing touchdown. He also leads the SWAC with 610 passing yards and five touchdowns and holds a No. 8 ranking in the FCS in passing yards.

Jackson State is off this week before returning to action on Sept. 19 against Tuskegee in the W.C. Gorden Classic.
