Game preview - Jackson State at No. 17 Iowa State

AMES, IOWA - 
The Jackson State men's basketball team heads to the state of Iowa on Sunday to battle No. 17 Iowa State at 12 p.m. CT inside Hilton Coliseum. It is the Tigers first game out of three that they will play in the state of Iowa. 

JSU (2-6) played another hard fought game last Saturday, defeating Illinois State by a final score of 61-55. The Tigers scored at all three levels, shoot­ing 40.4 percent from the field while making 8 three-pointers shooting 61.5 percent and sinking 11 of their 16 free throws. On defense, they allowed the fewest points this season.

Ken Evans Jr. had a breakout performance against ISU, recording a double-double 13 points while grabbing 12 rebounds and knocked down five three-pointers. He is the fourth different Tiger to lead the team in scoring in a game this season and the fifth player to record double-digit points.

Gabe Watson continues to lead the team in points (15.3). Jayveous McKinnis is averaging a double-double (11.6) points and (10.4) rebounds (14th in the NCAA). 

Iowa State (8-0) is currently on an eight-game winning streak, including victories over Kennesaw State, Oregon State, Alabama State, Grambling State, No. 25 Xavier, No. 9 Memphis, UAPB, and Creighton. 

During their eight-game winning streak, Iowa State is averaging 75.1 points per game while holding their opponents to 60.1 points per game. 

Three Cyclones are averaging double-digit points this season, anchored by Izaiah Brockington at 16.0 points per game. He is shooting 48 percent from the field and has made 26 free throws this season. Gabe Kalscheur (12.1) and Tyrese Hunter (11.6) are two other Cyclones sc­oring in double-figures. 

This is the third meeting between Jackson State and Iowa State.  The most recent meeting was in 2020 where Iowa State defeated JSU 60-45.

Tip-off is slated for 12:00 p.m. CT and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
