NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - After dropping the first match of the weekend, the Jackson State women's tennis team rebounded to take a 5-2 win over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday. The win pushes JSU to 1-1 on the year.
Sherine Salem clinched the match with a 7-6 triumph in her second set to seal the deal for the Tigers.
JSU began the day leading 2-1 after taking care of business on the doubles court.
Battling it out in singles play, JSU and SFA split the top two and middle two courts in straight sets.
Sherine Salem won 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) sets to go along with
Tyra-Nicole Whyte 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 3 to extend the lead for the Tigers.
The only match to go three sets,
Zeina Shaban came back from a first-set deficit to win the second set 6-4. Taking control, the freshman won the third set to put the Tigers in the winner's circle.
"I'm very happy with how the ladies performed this weekend," head coach
Gabrielle Moore said. "Our team is fairly young, we had four freshman compete fearlessly, and played a vital role in the lineups. Our ladies had a ton of grit out there, all of them."
