The Jackson State University bowling program announces its 2022-23 schedule, as the Lady Tigers are scheduled to compete in nine regular season events.
Â
Jackson State will open the season with back-to-back events, first at Florida A&M Oct. 7-9 and then at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tournament in New Orleans Oct. 14-16.
Â
"I'm not only encouraged but very optimistic in how we will not only develop as a team, but most importantly peek at the proper time, in the closure of our season in the spring," said JSU head coach
Dr. Michael Boykins. "As we begin here shortly in October, opening with the FAMU Invitational, where we have demonstrated our ability to excel and have placed as champions and runners-up in consecutive years, we're excited. Following that, traveling to New Orleans for the Tulane Allstate Invitational will be a great test for us as we will compete against major talent on a high level."
Â
JSU will again host the annual Sonic Boom Classic at Fannin Lanes November 11-13, before ending the Fall schedule in the ISTAP Hornet Classic at Alabama State November 18-20.
Â
"Having a slight break to prepare, we then come home for our Sonic Boom Invitational," Dr. Boykins said. "This is always a fan favorite in which our alumni, students, and local bowlers get to see our women's bowling team in action. Prior to the winter break, we then visit the Alabama State Hornets Classic, again a tournament we have not only won, but also placed in the top three. Â This will give us a great opportunity to measure the bar and see where we are."
Â
JSU will open the spring with back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference events in a pair of roundups Jan. 13-15 and Feb. 3-5, both in D'Iberville, Miss. The Lady Tigers will then conclude the regular season in events at Arkansas State (Feb. 17-19), hosting the TNBA/HBCU Invitational in Atlanta (Mar. 5-7), and at Vanderbilt (Mar. 17-19). The 2023 SWAC Tournament will be held Mar. 24-26 in Arlington, Texas.
Â
"Obviously returning in the spring to begin with the roundups is significant, which is so imperative in preparing for the SWAC Championship," Dr. Boykins said. "The second half of the season is literally action-packed with major competition and preparing us for our championship, which is the pillar of the season."
