JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State men's and women's tennis teams will return to the JSU Tennis Center to take on Alabama A&M Saturday afternoon. Both teams will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Jackson State women's tennis (7-11, 5-1 SWAC) last competed against William Carey at home Saturday. The Tigers took the 4-3 win over the Crusaders. Even though JSU lost the doubles point, the Tigers returned for singles with a vengeance defeating William 4-3 to secure the comeback win. Paula Arcarons, Tyra-Nicole Whyte, Daniella Ramos and Zeina Shabaan each took down their opponents in singles competition.
The Tigers now sit in second place in the SWAC with only one conference loss.
Jackson State men's tennis (5-9, 2-1 SWAC) fell to William Carey Saturday afternoon, 4-3, in a hard-fought battle. The Tigers just weren't able to recover after falling in doubles matchups. Raul Centeno, Francisco Vargas and Carlos Castillo each won their singles matches, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early defeat.
The Tigers are ranked third in the conference.
Alabama A&M women's tennis (6-13, 5-2 SWAC) is coming off a 7-0 loss at Western Kentucky Wednesday. The Hilltoppers took the doubles point and two Bulldogs fell in straight sets to open singles. A close three-set battle wasn't enough to give the Bulldogs what they needed as AAMU suffered the loss.
Alabama A&M is currently fifth in the conference.
Alabama A&M men's tennis (3-8, 3-1 SWAC) comes to JSU after Alabama State dealt the Bulldogs their first conference loss of the season Saturday, 4-0. ASU won the doubles point with ease over AAMU. The Bulldogs were blanked in singles competition as Alabama State walked away with the victory.
The Bulldogs still remain second in the SWAC.
