Baseball Travels To Southeastern In Mid-Week Action

The Jackson State baseball team travels to Hammond to face Southeastern La. Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a contest to be televised online on ESPN+.

Jackson State (19-15) is coming off a Southwestern Athletic Conference series loss at Alabama State over the weekend.

Marshall Luiz (4-for-7, .571 avg.) and Jatavis Melton (4-for-8, .500 avg; three runs scored, one RBI) each hit .500 or better during the series against the Hornets. Ty Hill hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season over the weekend, while Daniel Bannon had a team-high five hits against Alabama State.

Hill is second in the SWAC and ranks 21st in the nation in batting average (.419), leads the conference and is tied for 13th in the country in on-base percentage (.539), is second in the SWAC in on-base plus slugging% (1.231), is second in the league in slugging% (.692), and is tied for the lead league in doubles (14). Hill is also tied for third in hits (50), tied for fifth in triples (three), has a career-high four home runs, is tied for 10th in runs scored (35), and is fourth in RBI (40).

Nationally, the Tigers ranked 14th in scoring (8.9 runs per game), 13th in triples (15), 18th in total runs (302), and 13th in on-base percentage (.426).

Southeastern La. (18-18) is coming off a Southland Conference series loss at home to McNeese. Tyler Finke leads the Lions in batting average (.328), hits (43), and stolen bases (26 / tied 6th / NCAA).
