JACKSON, Miss. | The third annual HBCU Swingman Classic, presented by T-Mobile and powered by the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation announced the rosters for the game highlighted by six players from Jackson State.
The game will feature 50 HBCU baseball players from around the country and will be played in Atlanta at Truit Park on July 11. The teams will be managed by former Atlanta greats David Justice and Brian Jordan, and the game will be played during All-Star Weekend. The Tigers will be represented by Jordan McCladdie, Joseph Eichelberger, Eric Elliott, Robert Tate Jr., Erick Gonzalez, and Nkosi Didder.
McCladdie (.376 /1.085/.564/.521), the Preseason SWAC Player of the Year, was named Second Team All-Conference following the season. He finished the year with 68 total hits including 12 doubles, five triples, and four home runs. He finished the season with 65 runs scored and 32 RBI, while walking 44 times and being hit by a pitch another 12 times. The outfielder also struke out just 22 times in 243 plate appearances. McCladdie finished the year with 49 stolen bases in 53 attempts. He led the nation in stolen bases prior to the regionals, and led the nation in stolen bases per game.
Eichelberger (.341/.891/.486/.405) finished the season with 63 total hits including 18 doubles and three home runs. He also scored 47 runs and knocked in another 41 hitting the middle of the order for the Tigers. He also walked 20 times and was hit another seven times, while striking out 28 times in 224 plate appearances. He also finished the season with 11 stolen bases in 16 attempts. He also led the nation with 10 sacrifice flies.Â
Elliott (6-1/3.28/1.35 WHIP) was named the SWAC Pitcher of the Year and was named to the National Pitcher of the Year Watch List. He finished the season with 13 starts and 18 appearances, recording one complete game and two saves. He logged 74.0 innings and allowed just 27 earned runs (34 total) on 53 hits. He walked 47 and struck out 95, and held opponents to a .204 batting average.
Tate (.269/.723/.369/.354) returns for his second Swingman Classic after playing 34 games (missed a portion of the season due to an early season injury). He recorded 35 hits from his shortstop position with right doubles, a triple, and his first career home run at the SWAC Tournament. He also scored 27 runs and knocked in another 20. The sophomore walked 15 times and was hit two other times, while striking out just 23 times in 147 plate appearances. He also recorded eight stolen bases without being caught on the season.
Gonzalez (8-3/5.23/1.48 WHIP) finished the season with 15 starts in 18 appearances, leading the team in wins. He also recorded a save and logged 84.1 innings. The senior allowed 49 earned runs (51 total) on 76 hits, walking 49 and striking out 100. He also held opponents to a .244 batting average on the season.
Didder (4-4/5.16/1.72 WHIP) recorded 25 appearances, all out of the bullpen, in his first season at Jackson State. He recorded a pair of saves and combined for a pair of shutouts. Didder logged 45.1 innings, allowing 26 earned runs (32 total) on 38 hits. He walked 40 and struck out 30, while holding opponents to a .241 average.
