BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State University sophomore pitcher Talmadge Davis and senior pitcher Jayden Lopez each were named weekly award winners by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) after their performances this week against Alcorn State.

Davis was named the SWAC Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week after he recorded his second consecutive complete game holding Alcorn State to just one hit - a sixth inning double - and allowed just six base runners (three walks and two hit batters) in the win on Saturday. The sophomore recorded a career-high 15 strikeouts, striking out the side in the ninth inning to end the game and recorded at least two strikeouts in an inning in six of the nine. He has recorded 33 strikeouts in his last three starts (22.1 innings).

Meanwhile, Lopez was named the SWAC Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season after he went 7.0 innings allowing just one unearned run on five hits with 15 strikeouts on Sunday - the second consecutive game in the series that Jackson State (20-23, 11-12 SWAC) recorded 15 strikeouts. The senior has recorded 29 strikeouts in his last three outings (19.1 innings).

Jackson State hits the road to face Mississippi Valley State in a three-game series beginning Friday night.
