JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State men's and women's tennis teams closed out its regular season at home with two victories over Alcorn State. The women's team blanked the Braves while the men's team won 4-1 in comeback fashion.
Paula Arcarons and Daniella Ramos opened the women's matches with a 6-2 doubles victory.
Tyra-Nicole Whyte and
Robin Alston fell in their doubles matchup, but the Tigers were still able to secure the doubles point as
Zeina Shabaan and
De'Alva Alston's opponents forfeited the match.
Arcarons finished singles play with a two-set win, 6-1, 6-2, over Kimberely Kaome. Daniella Ramos also defeated her opponent Jaimie Edwards in two sets, 6-3, 6-1, to seal the 4-0 win for JSU.
The men opened play falling in their doubles matchups as
Francisco Vargas and
Richy Gamo lost 7-5 and
Carlos Castillo and
Raul Centeno lost 4-6.
Gokalp Ayar opened singles defeating Arne Sohmer, 6-1, 6-1. Â Vargas topped Dakota Fernandez 6-0, 6-1 in his singles matchup to push the Tigers forward.
Richy Gamo went head-to-head with his opponent to secure JSU's win as Gamo overcame Isaac Santitto 6-3, 7-5.
