Rowell wins triple jump, Tigers record multiple top-five finishes at Samford Open

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Jackson State track and field team recorded several top-five finishes on both sides on Saturday at the Samford Open. Senior Ledamian Rowell led the way for the Tigers as the only first place winner on the day for the Tigers.

Rowell had a phenomenal showing in his first triple jump competition of the year, posting a distance of 15.45 meters.

The jumpers added two top-five finishes themselves with juniors Mylani Galbreath and Mya Grimes shining in the long jump and triple jump events. Galbreath posted a distance of 5.92 meters which resulted in a close second place finish. Grimes, a St. Louis native, leaped for a distance of 11.26 meters to grab the fifth place spot.

The throwers had an impressive showing highlighted by senior Lilliann "Tre" Dudley and junior Dalon Harris. Dudley posted a second-place finish in shot put after recording a throw of 13.58 meters. Dudley also placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.27 meters. Harris posted his own top-five finish in shot put with a throw of 15.29 meters.

Atlanta native, Jace Coleman posted a third place finish in the 60 meter dash with a 6.77 time. For the women, Callie Calicut posted a time of 8.84 in the 60 meter hurdles, good for a fourth place finish.
