BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) announced the 2025 Hall of Fame class on Friday afternoon with a pair of individuals that have Jackson State University ties on the list.
Jackson State Vice President/Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson was one of six individuals named as Hall of Fame inductees for his time as a basketball standout at Mississippi Valley State (1999-03), where he played 113 games over four years. During that span, Robinson started all but two games and averaged 5.3 assists per game. He finished his career averaging 32.7 minutes per game and shooting 36.5 percent from the floor and 33.9 percent from beyond the arc; averaging 10.0 points per game. His best season came in 2000-01 when he averaged 7.4 assists in 27 games and averaged 9.8 points, following that up in 2001-02 averaging 13.5 points and 6.0 assists per game.
His final collegiate season, Robinson averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 assists, while also averaging 2.3 steals per game to end his career in the 1,000-point club at Mississippi Valley State. He finished his career as the single-season leader and career leader in assists, while also being named the MVSU Athlete of the Year and being named a President's Scholar Award winner in 2002. He was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2011.
Former Jackson State quarterback Shawn Gregory (1987-90) joins Robinson as a SWAC Hall of Fame selection for the Class of 2025 after a career that included multiple conference championships. Gregory helped continue a 28-game conference winning streak during his career, and lost just three conference games in a four-year career that totaled 25 conference victories. He also helped the Tigers to conference championships in 1987, 1988, and 1990. He was named First Team All-SWAC in 1990, Second Team All-SWAC in 1989, and Honorable Mention in 1988. Gregory was named the Southern Heritage Classic MVP (1990) and Circle City Classic MVP (1989). He was a co-captain 1989 and captain in 1990, while leading Jackson State to the playoffs in all four years of his collegiate career.
Gregory was named to the Jackson State All-Century team in 2011 and was selected for the school's Hall of Fame in 2009.
The two join a class that includes Albert Dennis III (Grambling State/ Legends), Adell Davenport (Southern), Milton Taylor, Jr. (SWAC / Contributor), and Byron Johnson (SWAC Official / Legends).
