HOUSTON, Tx. | The Jackson State bowling team kicks off the season on Friday as the Tigers take part in the 15th annual TRACK Kat Klash in Houston, beginning on Friday.
Hosted by Sam Houston State University, the tournament includes 12 teams in total and features a Baker and match play format. It will be held at Emerald Lanes. Â
The teams featured are Oklahoma Christian, Wichita State, North Carolina A&T, Louisiana Tech, UMES, Tulane, Sam Houston State, Alabama State, Texas Southern, and Prairie View.
Head coach Michael Boykins is excited for his team to compete in their first tournament of the season.
"We want to get a good reflection of what the team's character is and how they can handle this first competition," Boykins said. "They've already gelled and have a great chemistry, now we get to chop down some wood and compete against our peers and common opponents."
This year's roster features three returners from last season in
Faith Washington,
MacKenzie Conway, and
Saida Lugo.
Washington enters her final season with the Lady Tigers after recording a 169.320 average last season.
Hailing from Nogales, Mexico, Lugo was featured in five contests last season, where she finished with an average of 158.733.
Conway returns for her sophomore season after being named to the All-SWAC second team in her freshman season.
The Lady Tigers also welcome three new athletes:
Paige Hubert,
Brooklyn Simpson, and
Tiara Henderson.
Hubert, a transfer from Webber International, finished with an average of 179.105 in six contests last season.
Michigan natives,
Brooklyn Simpson and
Tiara Henderson, begin their freshmen seasons at Jackson State. Simpson competed for the Dragons of Summit Academy North HS, and Henderson graduated from John Glenn HS.
