JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State returns to action this weekend after nine days off, facing Louisiana Tech at the Thomas Assembly Center on Saturday in its third consecutive road game to start the season. The game tips off at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
This will be the 16th meeting between the two schools since 1977 with Louisiana Tech holding a 13-2 advantage including winning the last 12 in the series. Jackson State (0-2) enters the weekend after losses to a pair of top 20 teams led by Daeshun Ruffin averaging 17.0 points per game, including 22 against No. 11 Louisville in the team's last outing. Meanwhile, Jayme Mitchell Jr. comes into the weekend after averaging 13.5 points per game after scoring 20 points against Louisville, and Dorian McMillian is averaging 10.0 points per game through the first two games of the season.

- Devin Ree will play against one of his former teams for the second consecutive game when the Tigers hit the floor against Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Ree started his career at Louisville before transferring to Louisiana Tech where he played in 56 games.
- Ruffin was named the SWAC Impact Player of the Week for the first week of the season after he averaged 17.0 points per game in the two games this week against No. 14/17 Illinois and No. 10/11 Louisville on the road. He finished the week shooting 41.9 (13-of-31) percent from the floor and 25.0 (3-of-12) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 62.5 (5-of-8) percent from the free throw line. The senior averaged 2.5 rebounds and dished out five assists to go along with three steals in the two games. He scored 12 points in 27 minutes against Illinois, converting on 5-of-11 shots from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds, dished out one assist and recorded on steal in the loss. Ruffin followed that up with 22 points in 33 minutes against Louisville, shooting 8-of-20 from the floor including three three-pointers. He also converted on 3-of-5 from the free throw line and recorded a pair of steals.
- The Tigers return a pair of starters from last season in Ruffin and McMillian, with McMillian earning Freshman of the Year honors last season. He returns as a Preseason Second-Team selection, while Ruffin returns as the top scorer in the conference and was named Preseason Player of the Year.
- Head coach Mo Williams will have two sons on the bench [at least at some point this season] with his son KyDarrius serving as a an assistant coach, while another of his sons - Mike - comes in as a highly-touted recruit from Gernantown High School.
- Tonight marks the third consecutive road game to open the season, but will be the first against an unranked team after playing No. 17 Illinois and No. 11 Louisville in the first two games. The Tigers continue their road swing next week against nationally-ranked Auburn and Arkansas before coming home to face Winthrop on Nov. 23.
