JACKSON, Ms. | Jackson State dropped its season opener on Friday in a hard fought match against Mississippi College.
Despite the loss, the Tigers forced three tiebreakers in singles competition along with narrow losses in doubles competition.
Federico Pickenstainer won his first set 6-3 in his matchup against Alvaro Saint Martin. Pickenstainer suffered a narrow loss to Martin in the second, 6-4. Martin continued his momentum en route to a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker.
Ching Chang Chiu also won his first set against Walker Ellis, 7-5. Chiu fell to Ellis in the second after losing 6-1 and 10-2 in the third set.
Freshman
Maas Schotanus fell to Rafeel Sabio in a tiebreaker, after winning his first set 6-3. Schotanus would lose the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 .
In doubles competition, the duo of Chiu and Schotanus took Martin and Alex Benichou Blanchard to the wire, ultimately falling 7-5. Pickenstainer and Pinilla also competed in doubles, falling to the team of Ellis and Sergio Ramirez Ocana, 6-4.

The Tigers will regroup and return to action against Mississippi State and Memphis in Starkville on Sunday, Feb. 9.
