JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State softball team went undefeated in day two of the River City Classic after beating Grambling State (3-1) and Mississippi Valley State (14-3, five innings).
GAME 1, JSU vs. GSU
Freshman, Jorgina Gant (1-0) started in the circle and picked up her first collegiate win for Jackson State. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·      Jackson State (2-0) put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the bottom of the third inning off of a homerun from Mari Stephens that scored her and Ariana Murrillo.
·      With one out, Jace Jackson pulled up to the plate and sent one over the fence to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
·      Grambling State answered at the top of the fourth putting one run on the board with a homerun from Kamryn Broussard.
·      The Tigers still held on for the 3-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
·      The Tigers out-hit the Grambling Tigers at a 7-5 clip.
·      Jackson State's pitcher limited GSU to just 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position facing 32 hitters in the game.
·      Stephens led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
·      Grambling State was led offensively by Broussard, who went 1-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.
·      Erin Gibbs led the GSU pitching staff, throwing six innings of three-run ball.
GAME 2, JSU vs. MVSU
The Jackson State Tigers took an 11-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 14-3 win over Mississippi Valley State in game two of the day.
Brooklyn Morris (1-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Jackson State. The left-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·      Jackson State (3-0) got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
·      JSU's offense started clicking and put up 11 runs, including a one-run single off the bat of freshman Valerie Joaquin.
·      The Tigers then held the Delta Devilettes scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning.
·      Jackson State picked up two runs when a single from Haley Howard brought home Ariana Murillo and Ariah Hill, which brought the score to 13-0 in favor of the Tigers.
·      Mississippi Valley State narrowed Jackson State's lead to 13-3 before the Tigers stretched the advantage to 14-3 in the fourth inning.
·      JSU scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Howard.
·      The score remained 14-3 for the rest of the game, as Jackson State coasted to the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
·      Morris struck out six MVSU hitters.
·      The Tigers power output was led by Jace Jackson, who compiled two extra base hits and going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and two RBI in the ballgame.
·      Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed 11 runs across.
·      The Tigers out-hit the Delta Devilettes at a 10-4 clip.
·       Jackson State had three players steal multiple bases in Saturday's game.
·      JSU swiped seven bases as a team.
·      Jackson State went 8-for-16 (.500) with runners in scoring position.
·      The Tigers' pitchers faced 19 Mississippi Valley State hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and zero fly balls while striking out six.
·      JSU drew 10 walks from MVSU pitching.
·      Mississippi Valley State was led offensively by Kelsey Kaluna, who went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
·      Ashtyn Clark led the Delta Devilettes pitching staff, throwing 3.1 innings of four-run ball.

The Tigers will close out the River City Classic at the JSU Softball Field Sunday afternoon to take on Alcorn State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
