CLINTON, Miss. | Jackson State competed in its first meet of the outdoor season at the Mississippi College Spring Cleaning Classic on Saturday, highlighted by five first-place winners.
Sophomore
Jace Coleman won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.70, his second year in a row winning the event. Seniors
Andrew Kiplagat and
Jeremiah Hudson won their respective events in the 1500-meter race and the 3000-meter steeplechase with times of 4:05.90 and 10:05.01.
Tayari Sherwood won in the 400-meter dash after finishing with a 49.24. Sophomore
Zamarie Kier also won the 110-meter hurdles clocking in at 15.29.
Also on the men's side,
Dominic Turner placed third in the 800-meter race with a 1:52.69, while Godfrey Kimutai finished third in the 1500-meter at a 4:08.39.
Tyjah Edwards and
Nakerrius Eppenger rounded out the top five in the 100-meter race with respective times of 11.04 and 11.09.
In the field events,
Elijah Blige came in a close second with a heave of 46.79 meters in discus.
On the women's side,
Madyson McGill came in second in the pole vault with a height of 2.90 meters.
Gabrielle Holliday threw for a distance of 41.51 meters in discus, which was good for a second-place finish. Lillian Dudley cracked the top three in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.05 meters.
In the track events,
Erkyah Garrett came in third in the 100-meter dash with a 12.77.
Callie Calicut and
Amara Hawkins-Quinones ended the 400-meter dash, with Calicut clocking in at 58.35 and Hawkins-Quinones finishing at 58.41.
Gabrielle Langford finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.92.
Up Next
The Tigers take a week off and resume competition at the Sean Brady Season Opener in Hammond Louisiana on March 15.
