BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State senior Eric Elliott was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday night, along with two other Tigers earning Second Team All-Conference honors the night prior to the opening of the conference tournament.
Eliott (6-0, 2.70 ERA) led the conference in earned run average and finished second in strikeouts with 90 after leading the conference for most of the season. He also recorded a pair of saves with one complete game while logging 70.0 innings. He allowed just 27 runs (21 earned) and held opponents to a .198 batting average. In conference play, Elliott finished the season 4-0 with a 2.54 earned run average with a complete game and one save. He logged 49.2 innings in conference in 10 games (eight starts) and allowed just 19 runs (14 earned) with 63 strikeouts.
The senior recorded three double-digit strikeout games on the season including recording 13 in back-to-back starts, while earning SWAC Pitcher of the Week honors multiple times. He led the conference in hits allowed per nine innings (6.17) and strikeouts per nine innings (11.57). He finished the regular season ranked nationally in several categories including hits allowed per nine innings (29th), strikeouts per nine innings (32nd), earned run average (32nd), strikeouts (40th), and complete games (56th). Elliott was also the lone pitcher from the conference named to the Pitcher of the Year Watch List earlier this season while earning First Team All-Conference honors.
Meanwhile, Jordan McCladdie was named to the Second Team as an outfielder after hitting .375 this season with 47 stolen bases in 51 attempts. The senior is currently in the midst of a streak of 20 consecutive steals dating back to March 14. He finished the season with 19 extra base hits including five triples, while also scoring 62 runs in 48 games. He finished in the top three in several categories in the conference including stolen bases (first), stolen bases per game (first), walks (second), runs (second), triples (second), on-base percentage (third), runs per game (third), triples per game (fourth), and walks per game (fourth). He currently leads the nation in stolen bases and stolen bases per game and ranks in several categories nationally including on-base percentage (10th), triples (16th), runs per game (21st), triples per game (25th), walks per game (43rd), runs (48th), batting average (62nd), and walks (70th).
He was joined on the Second Team by first baseman Wilbert Perez who finished the season hitting .331 in 46 games with 57 total hits. He finished the regular season with 11 doubles, a triple, and a team-high seven home runs while scoring 28 runs and recording a team-high 45 RBI. He recorded a .529 slugging percentage and a .424 on-base percentage in the regular season. Perez also hit .343 in conference play with 37 hits including 10 extra-base hits. He scored 18 runs and drove in another 30 in 28 conference games.
