Five in double figures, including a pair of double doubles in win over Texas Southern

JACKSON, Miss. | Daeshun Ruffin led five players in double figures with his third consecutive double-double in a 94-89 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Texas Southern on Monday night at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.

Ruffin finished the night with 25 points and a career-high 16 assists for his third consecutive double-double in conference play, connecting 47.1 (8-of-17) percent from the floor and 75.0 (6-of-8) percent from thee free throw line. Dorian McMillian added 25 points on 58.3 (7-of-12) percent shooting from the floor including four three-pointers, and connected on 87.5 (7-of-8) percent from the free throw line.

Dionjahe Thomas finished with his second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, connecting on 66.7 (8-of-12) percent from the floor including his first three-pointer of the season. They were joined in double figures by Raevon Thomas with 13 points and seven rebounds, and Jayme Mitchell Jr. with 11 points and five rebounds.

Jackson State (5-13, 4-1 SWAC) shot 53.4 931-of-58) percent from the floor and 38.1 (8-of-21) percent from beyond the arc on the night. They also shot 85.7 (24-of-28) percent from the free throw line, while holding Texas Southern to 49.2 (32-of-65) percent from the floor and 28.6 (8-of-28) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 70.8 (17-of-24) percent from the free throw line for the night.

Bryce Roberts led four players in double figures with 26 points for Texas Southern, while Troy Hupstead finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Jackson State shot 52.0 (13-of-25) percent from the floor and 33.3 (4-of-12) percent from beyond the arc, while also connecting on all 15 of its free throws. Meanwhile, Texas Southern shot 42.4 (14-of-33) percent from the floor and 37.5 (6-of-16) percent from beyond the arc in the opening half. They also shot 57.1 (4-of-7) percent from the free throw line.

Jackson State shot 54.5 (18-of-33) percent from the floor and 44.4 (4-of-9) percent from beyond the arc in the second half. They also shot 69.2 (9-of-13) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Texas Southern shot 56.3 (18-of-32) percent from the floor and 16.7 (2-of-12) from beyond the arc in the second half. They also shot 76.5 (13-of-17) percent from the free throw line.

The Tigers trailed just 14 seconds in the game and were tied for just 1:14. They also assisted on 20 of their 31 baskets on the night.
