BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State senior first baseman Wilbert Perez was named Preseason First Team All-Conference by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), while the Tigers were picked to finish fifth announced by the coaches on Tuesday.
Perez finished 2025 hitting .324 in 49 games, finishing the season with 60 hits in 185 official at-bats. He also collected 12 doubles, one triple, and eight home runs; while recording a .945 OPS. The senior also scored 32 runs and knocked in another 48, all while recording a slugging percentage of .530 and an on-base percentage of .415. He also walked 19 times, was hit by a pitch 11 times, and recorded five stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Jackson State was picked to finish fifth in the conference preseason poll with 141 points, and was picked to finish behind defending champion Bethune-Cookman (209), Florida A&M (185), Alabama State (178), and Grambling State (143).
The Tigers open the season on Friday, Feb. 13 at the MLB HBCU Power Series hosted at Trustmark Park.
