Brown Registers Double-double, Wilkinson Explodes for 19 Points in Tigers Win Over Prairie View A&M

Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | The Jackson State women's basketball team continued a high note as the Tigers topped Prairie View A&M on the road Thursday night, 63-59.
Angel Wilkinson led the Tigers offense with 19 points followed by Mikayla Brown's 11-point, 12 rebound double-double. Jaileyah Cotton also finished with 12 points in the matchup.
 
How It Happened
  • Jackson State (10-17, 8-7 SWAC) started the scoring with a jumper in the paint from Jada Patton.
  • Prairie View A&M (2-25, 0-16 SWAC) evened the score at seven with a fast break jumper from CJ Wilson.
  • The Panthers took the lead and went on to carry a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.
  • JSU came back to knot the score again at 8:11 in the second after Pierre-Noelle Tchehchoua made two free throws.
  • The Tigers has a brief lead but lost some of that advantage as PV pressed to 26-18 advantage with 4:17 to play in the half.
  • Jackson State gained fire pushing to tie the score at 28 as Tchehchoua finished in the paint for two going into the half.
  • Both teams exchanged the lead knotting the score four times before JSU jumped ahead to a 44-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Jackson State opened the fourth period with a made free throw from Cotton and layups from Tchehchoua and Wilkinson to create some separation, 49-41with 8:27 left in regulation.
  • The Panthers attempted to climb back in it bringing the game within one with 4:16 left to play, but JSU never lost its lead on the way to the 63-59 victory.
Inside the Numbers
  • Jackosn State shot 36.2 percent (21-for-58) from the field and 66.7 percent (16-for-25) from the free throw line.
  • The Tigers finished with 30 points in the paint, 20 pints off 17 PV turnovers, 13 bench points, eight second chance points, and five fast break points,
  • Prairie View A&M shot 43.1 percent (22-for-51) from the field and 64.6 percent (11-for-17) from the free throw line.
  • CJ Wilson led PV with 20 points, Chrystal Schultz finished with 16 points and Alana Shields registered 12 points.
  • Laila Robinson and Wilson each recorded seven rebounds in the game.
  • The Panthers finished with 26 points in the paint, 23 points off 17 JSU turnovers, eight second chance points, four bench points and four fast break points.

The Tigers will conclude their final road trip of the season with a matchup at Texas Southern on Saturday. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
