JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State returns home after an eight-game road swing this weekend, hosting Prairie View A&M in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series beginning Friday night.
All three games of the series will be streamed on SWAC TV.
Jackson State (10-12, 1-2 SWAC) looks to get back on track in conference play against a team it faced in the season-opener, with Prairie View A&M winning the contest at the MLB HBCU Power Series at Trustmark Park. Since that game, Jackson State has won 10 of its last 11 games, while Prairie View A&M (4-15, 0-3 SWAC) has dropped 15 of its last 18 games. The Tigers return home for just the seventh game this season, however, they will be home for four consecutive games beginning this weekend.

The staff was split into two teams – Stars and Stripes – for its annual Stars vs. Stripes series, which was held June 29 to July 3 at various locations across North Carolina. Following Training Camp, which featured 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible collegiate players in the country, the Stars staff led Team USA at the 45th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Championship Series from July 8-13 at various venues across Japan. The Stripes staff guided select players on a Collegiate National Team Prospects squad in a Fourth of July match-up with the Appalachian League Select Team in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
- Wilbert Perez was named Preseason First Team All-Conference by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). However, the power hitting first baseman missed the first 19 games of the season before returning against Texas Southern in Houston, playing in two games.

- Junior Diego Melendez is one of 100 shortstops featured on the 2026 watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award, which was released Wednesday by the College Baseball Foundation. The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27. The top 100 shortstops in the country are led by several players putting up tremendous offensive numbers. But because the award is reflective of more than just offense, there are numerous players putting up solid defensive numbers as well.
- Omar Johnson reached 600 career victories when Jackson State defeated Mississippi Valley State. He now stands at 605 victories at Jackson State, trailing on Robert "Bob" Braddy who finished his career with 823 wins.

- The Tigers look to win their first conference series after dropping the first series of the year on the road against Texas Southern.
- These two teams met in the season opener this season in Pearl (Miss.) at the MLB HBCU Power Series with Prairie View A&M coming out on top.
