GRAMBLING, La. | Despite a pair of late inning home runs, Jackson State dropped its third consecutive game in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, dropping a 12-9 contest to Grambling State at Willis Reed Field on Thursday night.
Jackson State (13-17, 4-6 SWAC) jumped out early with three runs in top of the first inning, and the two teams traded runs over the next four innings before Grambling State grabbed a 10-6 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jackson State got a two-run home run from Tyree Reed in the eighth to trim the lead to 10-8, and one from Diego Melendez in the ninth for the final margin.
Robert Tate Jr. led the way at the plate for Jackson State finishing 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Hederick Torres finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Meanwhile, Melendez picked up two of the 11 Jackson State hits in the loss. Trae Burton (0-4) suffered the loss out of the bullpen working 5.0 innings in relief of starter Talmadge Davis.

Bridges reached first on a fielding error by cf, RBI (2-2 BFKB); Johnson advanced to second; Dillon Braxton advanced to third; Chris Marcellus scored.
