Box Score ITTA BENA, Miss. | Jackson State clinched its spot in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Championships with an 11-5 victory over Mississippi Valley State at Magnolia Field on Friday night.
Pierre Cabral led Jackson State (23-23, 13-12 SWAC) at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with four RBI on a two-run home run in the third inning to tie the game at 3-all. He also added an RBI single in the first and an RBI double in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, Tyree Reed finished 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and four runs scored.
Tyshon Patty finished 2-for-5 on the day, while Hederick Torres picked up a pair of hits in the win and Robert Tate Jr. finished 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.
Trae Burton (2-3) picked up the win in relief of starter Talmadge Davis, working 3.0 innings allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts. He gave way to Jaedeyn Edwards with runners at first and second in the seventh inning, who recorded a pair of strikeouts to end the inning. Edwards finished the game working XX innings for his fourth save of the season.
The Tigers sit just one game back of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and two back of Texas Southern in the win column with five regular season games remaining.
