Seven Seniors Prepare for Sunday's Senior Day

JACKSON, Miss.- The Jackson State soccer regular season is nearing a close as the Lady Tigers senior girls prepare for Sunday's senior day matchup with Mississippi Valley State now set for 1 p.m. at Ridgeland HS in Ridgeland, Miss.

The Tigers will recognize seven senior girls, Alexis Henriquez, Savanna Henriquez, Jalah Carter, Gwendolyn Joy, Patricia Calderon, Alandria Smith, and Carlee Griffiths, prior to the match with MVSU.

Jackson State is currently riding a three-game winning streak with a 1-0 victory over Texas Southern University back on October 13th and has since gone on to defeat Grambling State 2-0 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff 1-0.

The team has turned the corner now with three straight shutouts and a continuing streak of 336 straight minutes without allowing a goal. That streak is currently the longest shutout streak in recent history for the program (dating back to records that begin in 2015).

It is also the first time since September of 2017 that JSU soccer has been above .500 in conference play.

Coming off of Sunday's win versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Jackson State now sits in 6th overall place out of 11 schools in SWAC play with a current conference record of 4-3. The Blue and White also put up a season-high 20 shots and 10 shots on goal as a collective unit.

For the season, Megan Howell and Jalah Carter continue to be the team's two top scorers with two goals scored apiece. Five other Tigers have scored one goal including, Alexis Henriquez, Alandria Smith, Patricia Calderon, Carlee Griffiths, Sage Magruder, and Brynn Walker. Alandria Smith, Alexis Henriquez, and Megan Howell each lead the team with one assist.

Thea Ebbe Brich has been a force in the goal with 49 saves and a .592 save percentage. As a team, JSU currently is ranked eighth in the nation with 52 of 91 shots being on goal (.571).

Valley will come to town owning an overall record of 1-12-1 overall record and a conference record of 0-8. MVSU is coached by Rohan Naraine and assisted by Laadi Issaka.

Naraine is in his second season as the head coach for Mississippi Valley's women's soccer program. He is the fifth coach in the history of the program.

In his first campaign at the helm, the Devilettes won five contests and tied in four more. The team narrowly missed a trip to the SWAC Championship.
