JACKSON, Miss.  – The Jackson State women's basketball team travels to Texas Southern this weekend for a Saturday matchup with the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern beginning at 5:30 p.m. 
 
History in the Making
 
At 11-0 in the SWAC, the Lady Tigers have broken the school record for best win streak in conference history. Winners of 12 games in a row, the Lady Tigers need to win the next three games on it's schedule to break the best win streak overall in school history. As the Lady Tigers continue through their conference slate, it's important to note the 2003-04 squad finished with a 16-2 SWAC record, which is the most wins in program history.

Marneisha Hamer and Dayzsha Rogan each rank in the top 10 in the conference in points per game. Rogan ranks seventh with an average of 12.6 points per game and Marneisha Hamer scores an average of 13.3 points per game and ranks fifth. Ameshya Williams averages 10.2 points per game and ranks 17th in the SWAC.
 
JSU ranks No. 2 in offense in the SWAC with 65.7 points per game. The Lady Tigers rank in the top half of the SWAC in defense, allowing an average of 64.8 points a game for fourth best in Conference play.
 
The Lady Tigers lead the conference in rebounding with 43.7 boards per game. JSU also averages 27.2 defensive rebounds and 16.4 offensive rebounds per game, which also ranks first. 
 
Hamer and Ameshya Williams both rank in the top five in the conference in rebounds. Williams is hauling in 8.9 and Hamer 6.2 rebounds per game, good for third and fourth in the SWAC. 
 
The Blue and White lead the league with 99 blocks and an average of 4.71 denials per game. Williams leads the conference with 54 blocks, which ranks first in the SWAC and 21st in the country (No. 18 nationally in blocked shots per game with 2.57 BPG).

Dayzcha Rogan leads the Lady Tigers with 48 steals, good for No. 6 in the conference.

 
Scouting Texas Southern
 
TSU averages 70.1 points per game, which ranks first in the SWAC and allows 67.3 ppg, which ranks third in the conference. The Tigers use a balanced attack to frustrate opponents and tend to create turnovers for opposing offenses as TSU ranks No. 12 nationally in turnovers forced and No. 5 in steals. 
 
The duo Ciani Cryor (17.7) and Niya Mitchell (15.5) rank first and third in the conference in scoring. 
 
Mitchell is also the leading rebounder in the SWAC with 11.9 rebounds per game and ranks No. 5 nationally in rebounds as well as No. 16 in steals.

Cryor is No. 3 nationally in steals per game No. 10 in assists.

 
Last Time vs. Texas Southern (January 18, 2020)
 
JACKSON, Miss. – Dayzsha Rogan drained a pair of free throws with one second remaining in overtime and Jackson State defeated Texas Southern 81-79 to cap a thrilling finish.
 
With the win, the Tigers improved to 7-8 overall and 5-0 in SWAC play and standalone the top of the conference standings. TSU falls to 8-7 and 3-1 in the conference.
 
Rogan had the hot hand throughout the night and scored a game-high 24 points on 8-of-11 from the field. The Ripley, Mississippi native also went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and grabbed nine rebounds.
 
Kaisah Lucky scored 15 points and handed out seven assists.
 
Ameshya Williams secured the double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds while adding four blocks.
 
Marneisha Hamer added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. The Memphis native also hit a key three-pointer in the fourth quarter to tie the game and force overtime.
 
As a team, JSU shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range.
 
JSU also dominated in front of the basket with 55 rebounds and 32 points in the paint.
 
There were 10 lead changes and the largest lead by either team was eight points.
