JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State volleyball team will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman in its final regular season matches. The Tigers will take on FAMU Saturday at 3 p.m. and BCU Sunday at 2:30.
Jackson State (12-14, 11-3 SWAC) heads to Florida after wrapping up its last home game against Mississippi Valley State. The Tigers celebrated senior night while receiving their 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Regular Season Championship rings. JSU topped the Devillettes 3-0 at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center. The Tigers are also riding a 4-game win streak after their last home game and sweeping UAPB, Grambling State and Prairie View A&M at the SWAC Western Division Cluster. JSU fell to FAMU at home, 3-1, in its last meeting (Oct. 14) and defeated the Wildcats, 3-1 (Oct. 16).
Going into its last regular season games, the Tigers sit at #3 in the conference behind Alabama State and FAMU. Taila Gaines is third in hitting percentage (.311) and Jordan Jones is fifth with a hitting percentage of .280. Alexis Williams has a hitting percentage of .244 (8th), sixth in aces (31) and ranked fourth in kills (293) and points (333). Damassy Thompson is third in assists (464). With 212 kills and 226.5 points, Olivia Flanagan comes in ranked at #10 in both categories. Alana Washington sits at #7 with 267 digs on the season.
Florida A&M (16-12, 13-1 SWAC) has only lost one conference match to Alabama State in Tallahassee. The Rattlers face the Tigers Saturday after coming off a 3-0 victory against Alabama A&M (Nov. 7). FAMU currently sits at #2 in the SWAC.
Bethune-Cookman (6-20, 6-8 SWAC) won two of its last four matches as the Wildcats swept Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 and fell 3-2 to Grambling State and 3-1 to Alabama State. BCU is fresh off a 3-0 victory against Alabama A&M as they host JSU Sunday.
