Jackson State University, host of the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tennis POD 1 Roundup, saw its women's team blank Southern University, 4-0, here at the JSU Tennis Center on Saturday.
With the win, the JSU Lady Tigers now hold records of 2-0 in the SWAC and 3-2 overall. Southern fell to 0-2 in the SWAC and 0-5 overall. The JSU men's team was idle on Saturday.

Gabrielle Moore said she was pleased again with the effort of her ladies.
"We had a good match today," said Moore. "It was good to get another win under our belt. We had some tough competition out there, but the ladies showed great mental toughness throughout, especially in singles to stay on the court."
All three of JSU's freshmen picked up victories in singles play against Southern, including
Paula Arcarons, who defeated SU's Kourtni Stewart 6-1, 6-1, Zeina Shaaban, who defeated Sasha Taruberekera 6-3, 6-1, and
Daniela Ramos, who defeated Olivia Jenkins, 6-1, 7-5.
"It's great to see these ladies go out there and compete fearlessly," said Moore.
In other POD 1 Day 2 women's action at the JSU Tennis Center, Alcorn State (2-5, 2-0 SWAC) defeated Florida A&M (2-7, 1-1 SWAC) 4-1, Prairie View A&M (1-10, 1-1 SWAC) defeated Bethune-Cookman (0-3, 0-2 SWAC) 7-0, Alabama A&M (2-4, 2-1 SWAC) defeated Grambling State (0-5, 0-1 SWAC) and Alabama State (2-3, 1-0 SWAC) defeated Mississippi Valley State (0-2, 0-2 SWAC) 4-0.
Saturday's lone men's match saw Alabama State defeat Mississippi Valley State, 4-0. With the win, Alabama State upped its record to 1-3 overall, 1-0 in the conference. It was MVSU's first contest of the season.
On Sunday, the final day of the SWAC POD 1 round-up, the women's teams of Alabama A&M and Bethune-Cookman will play at 10 a.m. at the Bridges Tennis Center, the same location and time of the Grambling State versus Florida &M women's match.
At the JSU Tennis Center on Sunday at 10 a.m., both the men's and women's teams of Jackson State and Alabama State will square off, followed by 1 p.m. battles between the men's and women's teams of Prairie View A&M and Mississippi Valley State.
The matches at both the JSU Tennis Center and the Bridges Tennis Center are free and open to the public.
