Tennis Teams Sweep Valley

The Jackson State University Lady Tigers remain undefeated in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) women's tennis after defeating Mississippi Valley State in straight sets on Friday at the JSU Tennis Center, winning 4-0 and increasing their league record to 7-0.  The team stands at 10-4 overall.
 
The JSU men's team, meanwhile, handed the Delta Devils a 4-1 defeat.  That win upped the Tigers' record to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
 
Women's Match: JSU 4, MVSU 0
 
In winning their sixth straight match of the season, and ninth in 10 outings, the Lady Tigers completely dominated their opposition.  Sherine Salem defeated MVSU's Toi Carter 6-0, 6-0, with teammates Paula Arcarons defeating Toni Carter 6-0, 6-0, and Tyra-Nicole Whyte defeating Alexus Johnson 6-0, 6-0.  Zeina Shaaban won her singles match by defeat.
 
The teams did not compete in doubles.
 
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Saturday when they host Grambling State University at the JSU Tennis Center.
 
Men's Match:  JSU 4, MVSU 1
 
The JSU Tigers won their third straight match of the season with their 4-1 victory over the visiting Delta Devils.
 
JSU's wins came as Francisco Vargas blanked Landon Smith 6-0, 6-0, Paul Centero blanked Harrington Stutson 6-0, 6-0, Agustin Agosto blanked Anthony Mosley 6-0, 6-0, and Richy Gamo blanked Kevon Williams 6-0, 6-0.  Malik Ramsey was MVSU's lone winner of the day -- and he won his singles match by default.
 
As with the women, the men's teams did not compete in doubles.
 
The Tigers' next scheduled match is slated for March 25, when they host Dillard University.
