Tennis Teams Fall To Nicholls In Regular Season Finale

The Jackson State University women's and men's tennis teams both fell short in their regular-season tennis finales here at the JSU Tennis Center on Tuesday against Nicholls, as the Lady Tigers lost 4-3, with the Tigers falling 4-0.
 
The 15-6 Lady Tigers and 8-8 Tigers will return to action Saturday in the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tennis Championships semifinals in New Orleans, La. The JSU Women, the two-time SWAC Regular Season Champions, are the #1 seed and will play at 9 a.m. The JSU men are the #2 seed and will play at 1 p.m. Opponents are TBD.
 
Women's Tennis: Nicholls 4, Lady Tigers 3 - The Lady Tigers were strong in the doubles, winning two of the three matches, but lost four of the six singles matches played.
 
In doubles, the duo of Sherine Salem/Paula Arcarons recorded a 7-6 (7-2) win over NSU's Jessie Mount/Laura Lopez, as Zeina Shaaban/Robin Alston defeated NSU's Morgan Forshag/Sophia Sara Safarova by a 6-1 margin.
 
JSU's two singles victories came from Tyra-Nicole Whyte, who defeated Safarova 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, and Alston, who defeated Carla Bouygues 6-2, 7-5.
 
Men's Tennis: Nicholls 4, Tigers 0 - JSU's tough outing against the NSU Colonels did produce one bright spot for the home team. In doubles, JSU's Francisco Vargas/Richy Gamo upended NSU's Antoine Thiriat-Martin/Pavie Drobnjakovic by a score of 6-1.
