Women's Tennis Wins SWAC Championship

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Jackson State University women's tennis team defeated Prairie View A&M 4-0 Sunday to win the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship.

The #1 seeded Lady Tigers won the third SWAC title in program history and the first since 2005. They will learn their NCAA Tournament destination on Tuesday, May 3.

Jackson State head coach Gabrielle Moore was named SWAC Coach of the Year, and Paula Arcarons was named as the Most Valuable Player. Arcarons, Robin Alston and Tyra-Nicole Whyte were named to the All-Tournament team.

The #2 doubles team of Whyte and Daniela Ramos got the day started with a 6-0 win over PVAMU's Gabrielle Leslie/Jada Hill. At #3 doubles, Alston and Zeina Shaaban defeated Ruju Chauhan and Claudia Medina 6-2 to take the team doubles point.

At singles, #3 Whyte defeated Hill 6-0, 6-3. #6 Shaaban defeated Salma Villalobos 6-1, 6-2, and #6 Arcarons defeated Victoria Castillo 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the championship.
