The red-hot Jackson State University women's tennis team won its 10th match in 11 tries with a resounding 4-1 win over Xavier of Louisiana here at the JSU Tennis Center on Saturday.
The JSU men's team, meanwhile, saw its two-match winning streak come to an end with a 5-2 loss to Xavier.
The JSU women's team win increased its record to 14-5 on the season, while the men's team's record is now even at 7-7.
Women's Match: JSU 4, Xavier 1
The Lady Tigers swept Xavier in the singles competition, winning all four of the completed matches and they led in the two matches which were not finished.
JSU's
Sherine Salem defeated Xavier's Juliette Finch 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match. That was followed by
Paula Arcarons defeating Tianna Dixon 6-2, 6-2,
Natalya Ogunwale defeating Valentina Largacha 6-3, 6-3, and
Zeina Shabaan defeating Lindsey Dixon 6-3, 6-3.
Tyra-Nicole Whyte and
Daniela Ramos were both leading their opponents in matches which were not finished.
In doubles play, the Lady Tigers managed to salvage one of the three matches when the duo of Ramos/Whyte defeated Xavier's Juliette Finch/Tianna Dixon 6-2.
Men's Match: Xavie 5, JSU 2
The JSU Tigers, meanwhile, won two of six singles matches, those wins coming with a
Richy Gamo 6-0, 6-2 victory over Xavier's Juan Varon as well as a
Hiromu Ikeda 6-2, 6-3 victory over Dedric Ray.
JSU was swept in doubles.

The Jackson State men's and women's tennis teams will host Nicholls at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in their final regular-season competition. The SWAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships are scheduled for April 22-24 in New Orleans.
