BATON ROUGE, La. | Jackson State finished sixth in its first tournament of the year at the Southern Queen's Invitational hosted by Southern over the weekend, while
Juliana Rincon finished second overall.
Rincon finished with an average of 194.20 in five matches, while
Catalina Tovar (11th) and
Faith Washington (16th) finished in the top 20 for the Tigers.
Jackson State (5-7) won a pair of matches on the opening day of the tournament in Baker play after dropping a 922-898 match to No. 8 Sam Houston State before coming back to defeat Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Texas Southern 852-840. The Tigers dropped a match to Morgan State (871-819) before winning over Grambling State 908-688.
They closed out day one with an 892-811 loss to UAB.
The Tigers split a pair of matches in Traditional play on day two of the tournament with two wins over Southern, winning the first match 843-829 and the second 912-849. They dropped the last two matches of the day to UAB (870-766) and to No. 13 Tulane (1024-784).
In bracket play, Jackson State dropped its first match to Morgan State 4-2, before defeating Southern 4-1 in elimination bracket play. They fell in their last match of the weekend to Morgan State 4-1.
