SMYRNA, Tenn. | Jackson State defeated the number 8th nationally ranked Youngstown State University, to headline their performance against steep competition at the Music City Classic over the weekend.
On the first day of competition, the Tigers went 3-2 in Baker play after earning wins against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Alabama A&M (1,011-861), Caroll University (990-876), and Belmont Abbey College (939-859). Their two losses came in contests against No. 10-ranked Sacred Heart and No. 21 UAB, where they fell 1,030-885 and 1,090-1,028, respectively.
In the Traditional round, Jackson State secured its best win of the weekend against Youngstown State as they defeated the Penguins in a tight 966-959 victory. They continued their momentum into their match against the UMES Hawks, 943-894. Their final win of the day would come against Quincy University in a 910-858 victory.
On Sunday, the Tigers faced no. 15 Newman University in the first round. They won the first game of the series against the Jets 178-175. The Jets roared back after a tie in the second game to win the next three. The Tigers responded with a 198-174 win in game six before falling in the seventh 188-171.
In the second round, Jackson State won the rematch against UMES in five games, dominating the Hawks to finish at 16th place.

The Tigers will begin competition at the SWAC Championship on March 20 at the Bowling ITRC in Arlington, Texas.
