Tigers fall in SWAC championship game

ATLANTA, Ga. | Jackson State fell 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning to Grambling State at the 2024 Pepsi Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Tournament sponsored by Chevrolet inside Russ Chandler Stadium.

Joseph Eichelberger led Jackson State offensively finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI while Jordan McCladdie finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Lenny Montesano also picked up a pair of hits in the loss.
Christian Womble (4-3), the last of five pitchers on the day, suffered the loss working the final 1.1 innings for Jackson State.

How It Happened
  • (T1) Myles White doubled down the left field line to score Rodney Hibler Jr. and Jordan McCladdie who pulled off a double steal earlier in the inning, Jackson State 2-0.
  • (B3) Kyle Walker singled through the left to score Chris Marcellus who reached on an error, Jackson State 2-1.
  • (B4) Trevor Hatton doubled down the left field line to drive in a pair of runs before Marcellus hit a blooper to short center to drive in Hatton, Grambling State 4-2.
  • (T5) Joseph Eichelberger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in McCladdie, Grambling State 4-3.
  • (T7) Sebastian Cabeza drew a bases-loaded walk on a full count to bring in Lenny Montesano to tie the game with two outs in the inning, 4-4.
  • (T9) Eichelberger scored after a Robert Tate Jr. strikeout with no one covering home on the play, Jackson State 5-4.
  • (B9) Walker scored on a slow roller down the third base line before Cameron Bufford scored on the throw, Grambling State 6-5.
Following the conclusion of the game Arjun Huerta, Montesano, Je-andrick Lourens, and Womble were named all-tournament.
Jackson State closes the season at 36-20 with its first championship appearance since 2021.
