HOUSTON, Texas | Jackson State won two of its three games last week at the Cactus Jack Classic and was awarded tourament champion honors after a three-way tie. The Tigers were named the champion after giving up the least amount of runs between themselves, Grambling State, and Southern.
The Tigers also had six players named All-Tournament including a pair of infielders in Ledy Alvarez and Wilbert Perez. Alvarez (.400/.500/.571) finished the week with four hits in 10 at-bats, while also scoring 10 runs and recording a double. Meanwhile, Perez (.400/.600/.417) picked up four hits in 10 at-bats with a pair of doubles and he knocked in a pair of runs.
Joseph Eichelberger (.333/.667/.467) was the lone outfielder selected to the All-Tournament team after he picked up four hits including a double and a home run. He scored four runs and knocked in five more. Meanwhile, Pierre Cabral (.556/1.000/.615) picked up five hits including a double and a three-run home run. He scored a run and knocked in five more.
A pair of pitchers were also named All-Tournament in Erick Gonzalez (0-0/6.23/1.62) and Nkosi Didder (0-1/0.00/1.25). Gonzalez lasted 4.1 innings in the opener and struck out nine with just a pair of walks. Meanwhile, Didder made a couple of appearances, striking out six in 4.0 innings.
Shemar Harris (1-0/0.00/0.33) was named Honorable Mention after a pair of appearances without give up a run and just one hit in 3.0 innings.
