Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Jackson State defeated the FAMU Rattlers in a five-hour 4-3 match on Saturday afternoon after Isabela Benavides clinched the win on court four, continuing the Tigers' undefeated streak against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) competition.
Despite dropping the doubles point to the Rattlers, the Tigers put together a 4-2 score in singles play. Benavides' performance highlighted the Jackson State's signature win, as she pulled out a three-set victory, including two tiebreakers. She won the first match in a 7-6 (5) decision before dropping the second in a close 5-7 score. The final set came down to the wire as Benavides came out on top with another 7-6 (5) decision, securing the win for the Tigers.
Zofia Dziewiecka, Chiara Desia, and Zeina Shaaban joined Benavides in claiming singles victories on Saturday. Desia also pushed her match to three sets, coming out on top in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 decision. Dziewiecka claimed her victory on court five in a 7-5, 6-2 decision, while Shaaban won her match with a 6-3, 6-0 score.
Benavides and freshman Kayleigh Didderiens also won their doubles match in a 6-3 decision for the Tigers' lone doubles win.
