Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Jackson State defeated the Alabama State Hornets in a 4-2 victory on Sunday morning, extending their winning streak to three.
The duo of
Isabella Benavides and
Paula Corbalan gave the Lady Tigers an early lead after winning their match 6-2. With the score tied 1-1, Jackson State would need the team of
Tiara Alvarez and
Daniela Tovar to pull out a win at number three. The duo proved to be up for the challenge as they outlasted their opponents in a 7-6 victory to secure the doubles point.
The Hornets fought back in singles competition, winning the first two matches to tie the score at two all. Junior
Helen Hernandez recorded the first singles win for Jackson State with a 6-3, 6-2 win at number five. Benavides followed up with a 7-6, 6-0 victory at number five.
Paula Corbalan delivered the final blow to the Hornets' rally in a three-set battle, winning 6-1, 0-6, 6-3.
