Box Score JACKSON – The Jackson State women's basketball team earned its first win of the Tomekia Reed era with a convincing 65-56 win over Central Arkansas Tuesday evening at the Lee. E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
"We really needed this win," Reed said following the game. "We lost a close one at Memphis and on defense, we didn't play well at UT-Arlington. Offensively, we slowed the pace down in the second half and our defense did a great job getting hands on steals and deflections."
Offensively, the Lady Tigers were led by senior guard Christina Ellis. The San Diego, California product scored a game-high 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. Ellis made her mark at the free-throw line and buried 9-of-12 attempts.
D'Asia Mitchell scored 15 points and shot an impressive 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Marneisha Hamer dropped 14 points and grabbed six rebounds while handing out a pair of assists.
Kaisah Lucky hauled in eight rebounds and handed out seven assists – both team highs.
JSU (1-2) shot 41 percent (21-of-51) from the field, including a sizzling 54.4 percent (6-of-11) in the second quarter.
The Lady Tigers forced the Lady Bears (2-1) into 20 turnovers, which the Blue and White turned into 13 points.
JSU returns to action Monday, November 19 at Louisiana-Lafayette with tip set for 6:30 p.m.
