The Jackson State women's basketball team returns to the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center for its Southwestern Athletic Conference home opener Saturday versus Alcorn State at 3 p.m. The Tigers also host Southern Monday at 5 p.m.

The Tigers opened SWAC play last weekend and went 0-2 in a pair of close games. The Lady Tigers lost 58-55 in a narrow setback at Alabama A&M and a late rally fell short in a 74-67 defeat at Alabama State.

Home sweet home

JSU will benefit with a pair of home games. The Lady Tigers are 3-1 at the AAC this season with wins over Central Arkansas, Spring Hill and Millsaps. Their lone home defeat was a close 50-45 setback versus Southeastern Louisiana.

Hamer key cog in offensive machine

Marneisha Hamer in a proven threat inside the paint. The 6-foot-1 Memphis, Tennessee product averages 14.5 and 5.2 rebounds per game. In a neutral site match-up versus Illinois-Chicago in Las Vegas, Hamer dropped 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds en route to earning all-tournament team honors and the SWAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Hamer performed well in the opening weekend of SWAC play and scored 16 points and went 6-of-9 from the field. Hamer also added four three throws.

Lucky and Ellis a backcourt combo

Kaisah Lucky and senior
Christina Ellis are a one-two punch in the Lady Tigers backcourt. For the season Ellis averages 11.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Lucky, a Brooklyn, New York native is averaging 7.8 points and 4.5 boards per contest. Lucky scored a season-high 20 points in the 58-55 setback at Alabama A&M.
