JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State women's basketball team plays host to No. 10-ranked and national powerhouse Mississippi State Thursday evening at 7 p.m. It's the home-opener for the Lady Tigers.

1000-Point Club

JSU senior forward Marneisha Hamer made history this past Sunday at Indiana and joined the 1000-point club. The Memphis native tallied 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and secured point 1000 on a second-chance opportunity in front of the basket. Hamer will be honored prior to the start of the game to celebrate the occasion.

Tigers Run Past the Lady Demons

JSU jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 66-49 win over Northwestern State. Ameshya Williams secured her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

As a team, JSU shot 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the field, while also playing staunch defense and holding NSU to 19 percent (12-of-63) from the floor.

The Blue and White dominated in front of the basket and outscored the Lady Demons 32-15 and also won the rebounding battle 45-43, including a 29-19 margin on the defensive glass.

The Lady Tigers also recorded nine blocks, with Williams and Cherelle Jones each adding three blocks.

Dayzsha Rogan provided an offensive spark off the bench and dropped 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Tough in the Post

JSU welcomes Hamer, an HBCU All-American and All-SWAC performer. Joining Hamer in the post is Mississippi State-transfer Ameysha Williams.

Last season Hamer averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game – both team highs.

The addition of Williams, a 6-4 forward and former five-star recruit will only make the Lady Tigers that much more dangerous in front of the basket. Williams played on MSU Final Four team and played in 27 contests, including 13 SEC games.

Lucky Set for Senior Campaign

Kaisah Lucky is the quarterback of the Lady Tigers' offense and directed the No. 1-ranked offense in 2018, which earned her SWAC Newcomer of the Year accolades. The Brooklyn, N.Y. product averaged 9.9 points and 5.9 assists per game.

Offense Looks to Click

Last season the Lady Tigers ran opponents out of gym – literally. The Blue and White averaged 72.9 points per game and coupled that with a defense that allowed 64.1 points per game, made JSU a very difficult out. With Sumer Williams, Hamer and Lucky returning, the addition of Williams and several newcomers, the offense looks to take a step forward.

Scouting Mississippi State

The Lady Bulldogs enter with a 4-0 record with wins over Southern Miss (91-58), Tennessee Martin (82-76), Murray State (124-43) and Troy (122-88). MSU has outscored its opponents by a 104.8 to 57.3 margin.

Jessika Carter averages 18.8 points and 12.3 per game and shoots 66 percent (28-of-42) from the field.

Aliyah Matharu (11 points), Jordan Danberry (11 points) and Myah Taylor (10.5 points) also average double-digit points per game.
